CLEAN WATER INITIATIVE

We're working to provide clean water in needy villages in Africa and around the world.

OKUMPA VILLAGE AND SOURROUDING

COUNTRIES

Located in Afikpo South, Nigeria, access to clean water is a major challenge

This dirty water source dries up at the end of the rainy season

Access to clean water remains a critical issue in many developing countries

Your donation will directly support the drilling of these water wells and improve access to clean water

In this region, many people suffer and die from water-related diseases, with high mortality rates, particularly among children

Our plan is to drill borehole wells in Afikpo South and surrounding communities to provide a reliable source of clean water

The area relies on a dirty pond for water during the rainy season

During the dry season, inhabitants must walk over 6 miles or more to find water, whether clean or dirty

According to WHO and UNICEF (2002), 2.2 billion people lack access to well-managed clean drinking water

Cholera is prevalent and poses a significant health risk

Dirty Water in Okpuma and Surrounding Communities

Okpuma Community is located in Afikpo South, Ebonyi State, Nigeria. This community is surrounded by other communities, namely Asaga, Amangwu, and the others. The inhabitants of these communities are primarily farmers and traders. There is no reliable source of water in this area, except for dirty pond water during the rainy season; the pond dries up during the dry season when there is no rainfall. During the dry season, the inhabitants must walk more than six miles in search of water, whether it is dirty or clean. It is our plan to drill multiple borehole wells to provide reliable supplies of clean water in these areas, if funds are available. Access to clean water is a significant problem in most developing countries. According to WHO/UNICEF in 2002, 2.2 billion people have no access to well-managed clean drinking water. Many people die from dirty water-related diseases such as diarrhea and cholera. Dirty water combined with poor sanitation, has led to high mortality rates among adults and children. Your donation will help alleviate these dirty water-related diseases. We welcome any suggestions you may have and we can be contacted at This email address is being protected from spambots. Water - There is a Desperate Need

The following information is provided by the Global Health and Education Alliance, Corp. This water project is located in Okpuma Village, in southeastern Nigeria. This is a remote village with 500 inhabitants and the nearby villages consists of approximately 600 residents.
The village is located along a major dirty road, which extends from nearby, larger towns named Amasairi, Amanguwu and Owtuedd. The inhabitants of Okpuma Village are primarily farmers. They farm for the purpose of subsistence. Historically, this area has been designated a "No Water Area". The only period in which the local population receives water is during the "rainy season? (April through August). The residents have to travel a distance which is the equivalent of ten miles to access quality drinking water from a spring located in Uwuama. Fortunately, on occasion, water trucks pass through the area, and provide the locals with quality drinking water. Six years ago, Dr. Nnachi Oko attempted to create a well as a water supply, but the flow of water only lasted for one month. Dr. Oko needed to engage hydrologists to evaluate why the water flow stopped. He was informed that those individuals who developed the well did not dig deep enough into the ground. Thus, in March, 2024, Dr. Oko re-visited the area, and now plans to re-develop the well. This time, the intent will be to dig deep enough into the ground so that the water flow will be sustainable. (Please See Attached Photo) The development of a water reservoir is under way, while we wait for the appropriate personnel to develop a new well which will include reverse osmosis. This water supply and reservoir, if achieved, will supply water for the local villages, nearby schools, and a small medical facility a short distance away, even though the medical facility is only performing during medical missions. Plans are underway to erect a medical center that operates on a full-time basis. Your financial contribution will be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
